First, take a look at the video below. Chris Pirillo is a well-known computer geek, whose advice I have been following for years. You don't need to watch the whole thing to get the general idea.
Here's a quote from Chris: "I know many of you out there feel that registry cleaners will help speed up your computer. The truth of the matter is that they will NOT. In fact ... using one can end up rendering your system useless if you don't use it properly. I don't recommend using them ... EVER."
OK, now let me tell you about my own personal experience with a registry cleaner scam. But first, a little background ... Back in November, 2008 I set up this very website for the express purpose of selling a registry cleaner, and hopefully making a little money as an affiliate.
The product I decided to offer was at the time, and still is, the registry cleaner that was making the most money for its affiliates: Registry Easy.
A short time ago, my computer was getting quite slow, so I decided to try this product which I had been promoting for over a year, to see if it could speed up my computer.
DISASTER!
It wasn't just the "Blue Screen of Death". It was a full-fledged melt-down.
My computer couldn't even be restarted. I couldn't get it to go into safe mode, so I could do a System Restore.
The unfortunate episode ended up costing me $100 at my local computer repair shop, just to get back to where I was before I made the mistake of trying to use Registry Easy.
So what's the answer?
If you're having a problem with a slow computer, don't fall for the registry cleaner scam!
You could re-install your operating system. It might not be a bad idea to do this every year or so anyway.
Or you could buy some more memory. This also might be a good idea, if that's what's causing your slow-down. That's what I ended up doing myself.
And if you want some great ideas to speed up your computer that don't involve cleaning the registry, here's a great product I found that's chock full of helpful techniques. And it's written without a lot of geeky jargon.
